MANAGER, BUILDING OPERATIONS
(Exempt Position)

The Greater Victoria School District (District) has over 52 separate buildings and 3.1 million ft2 (287,000 m2) of floor space housing over 20,000 students and 3,500 staff.  Buildings range in age from over one hundred years and carrying heritage status to newer state of the art facilities, and span across five municipal jurisdictions.

The Manager of Building Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Greater Victoria School District schools and administration facilities including the cleaning, heating, security, maintenance identification and the generation of revenue through community use (rentals) of school facilities.  The Manager is also responsible for the operation of all internal mail and cartage requirements.

The successful candidate will deal effectively with educators, contractors and other District staff and with all work related contacts recognizing a diverse and complex client group. Applicants must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of current building operations and systems, the requirements of planned day-to-day maintenance, cleaning and preventative maintenance of buildings. They must be able to efficiently administer several projects and deal with competing priorities. Must demonstrate knowledge of energy conservation matters, relevant legislation, building access and security technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Completion of relevant post-secondary education in Business Administration or Operations Management.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience including the supervision and coordination of unionized employees.
  • Direct experience working with stakeholders including District staff, parent groups, engineers and vendors in a management and/or leadership role.
  • Driver’s license and use of personal vehicle for business purposes.

The District offers a competitive salary between $99,119 and $123,898 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
