District Vice Principal, Secondary District Team

This position is open to current School District 61 Vice Principals ONLY.

The District Team, Secondary Vice Principal will be knowledgeable about secondary school curriculum  and skilled at creating culturally responsive, inclusive learning environments, facilitating collaboration and sharing promising practices. The District Vice Principal will serve as a member of the District Team, and facilitate job-embedded and ongoing professional development for Principals, Vice Principals and teachers. The Vice Principal of the Secondary District Team advocates for, facilitates, and supports improved instructional practices with all staff from grade 8 through to grade 12.

A significant portion of this position will include district responsibilities and the coordination of mandates from the Ministry of Education, including areas such as grades 8– 12 curriculum, Post Secondary opportunities, grade to grade transitions, Literacy and Numeracy  Assessments and the Student Learning Survey.

The position will be for a term of three – five years and will be compensated at the Middle Vice Principal Salary Level.

The Vice Principal is highly skilled at building positive relationships and spends significant time building capacity by working collaboratively with district staff, Principals, Vice Principals and teachers identifying instructional needs, and identifying and designing learning experiences that are accessible, effective and engaging for all students.

The District Team, Secondary Vice Principal will be expected to:

  • design, develop and support high quality professional learning opportunities in the areas of grade 9 – 12
  • motivate others to implement innovative instructional and assessment practices that respond to the needs of every student
  • model and lead the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning
  • build capacity to explore the use of research-based instructional strategies and innovative practices to ensure that all students have access to meaningful and effective learning opportunities
  • work in collaboration with other members of the District Team, to identify school needs to implement professional learning plans that enhance staff’s abilities to address the unique strengths and needs of all learners in the school community
  • work closely with Secondary School Principals and Vice Principals to promote and support school growth that aligns with the District’s Strategic Plan
  • mentor adult learners in a supportive, collaborative manner that allows them to model, observe and provide constructive feedback to colleagues
  • complete other duties as assigned
