District Behaviour Consultant Position
0.8 FTE (continuing)
The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities. To provide this service, the District employs approximately 3,000 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.
The District Behaviour Consultant in collaboration with other members of the District Learning Support Team supports students with significant social, emotional and behavioural needs, who are new to the district, are returning after an absence, and/or have experienced a significant change in baseline behaviour to be successful in their catchment school setting. The range of services will include: developing stabilization and transition plans for students, providing short-term direct service and support to students, providing consultation to school staff in developing and implementing effective plans and interventions, and providing training and in-service to school and district staff as appropriate.
Please Note: As this position is itinerant, the successful applicant must have a car and a valid BC driver’s license.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Counselling Psychology, Social Work,
- Training in and experience with supporting students with significant social, emotional and behaviour support needs
- Experience in working as part of a collaborative team
- Knowledge of the BC Educational System, Ministry of Child and Family Development, Children and Youth Mental Health Supports and other community supports within the Greater Victoria region
