The Greater Victoria School District No. 61 General Local Election of nine Trustees will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

I, Joan Axford, Chief Election Officer for the School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria), do hereby declare, pursuant to section 97 of the Local Government Act, the following persons as candidates in the 2018 School Election:

ELECTION NOTICE – August 10, 2018

Public notice is hereby given to the electors of School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria) that a General Local Election will be held for the election of nine Trustees for a four-year term that starts on November 5, 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a School Trustee if they meet the following criteria:

• Canadian Citizen;
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day Saturday, October 20, 2018;
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
• not disqualified under the School Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Nominations for the offices of nine Trustees will be received by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer as follows:

Nomination packages will also be available for pickup in person at the offices of School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria), 556 Boleskine Road, Victoria, BC,  beginning on August 13th 2018, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS AND THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local election, the expense limit for candidates during the campaign period is $68,534.70. In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local elections, the third-party advertising limit is $3,426.74.
