Unveiling of design plans for brand new, seismically safe Cedar Hill Middle School
VICTORIA, BC ─ The Greater Victoria School District is hosting its third open house to collect input on building design plans for the new Cedar Hill Middle School on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. All members of the public are invited.
The open house will focus on development plans for the new seismically safe school, giving attendees the option to learn more and share their input on the latest design elements, such as materials and aesthetics. The open house will include a revised site plan, as well as preliminary floor plans and conceptual architectural renderings of the new school.
In Spring 2022, the District along with KMBR hosted an open house to gather input on site plans, accessibility, traffic circulation, bike access and prioritization of amenities. In Fall 2021, a virtual open house took place to inform the public about the scope of public engagement and the upcoming project. It was followed with a question and answer period and a public survey on design features.
This upcoming open house will be the final opportunity for the public to share their thoughts on the school’s design. All input will be collected, compiled and provided to the Board of Education to review prior to submitting final school plans to the Ministry of Education for approval.

The current school has an H-1 seismic ranking, the highest level of priority need and needs to be replaced. In July 2021, the province announced $42.9 million for a low-carbon, seismic replacement for Cedar Hill Middle. The District will contribute another $3.6 million, bringing the project total to $46.5 million.
