POLICY 5141.11

WORKPLACE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

The Board of School Trustees recognizes the need to ensure the safety and well- being of its employees and students with respect to hazardous materials in its schools and work sites.

The aims and objectives of the Board will be to:

1. Provide programs to train employees on the procedures in place
and to inform them on the nature of specific cautions associated with each hazardous item with which they might be expected to utilize in the course of their job or assignment.

2. Describe and follow procedures for the safe use, storage, handling and disposal of a controlled product and the procedures to be followed in case of an emergency involving a product.

3. Ensure that each employee is able to apply hazardous materials information as needed to protect their own health and safety and that of other employees and students in their care.
