(Information Systems Analyst)
The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities. To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $190 million and employs approximately 3,000 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.
Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, the Network Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the District’s enterprise network environment including Cisco switches, routers, wireless and VoIP systems, as well as Palo Alto Networks firewalls. Systems management and monitoring applications include Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Palo Alto Panorama, and Intermapper. This position works closely within a small dedicated team that support the School District’s networks, servers and storage.
Duties include: researching, designing, planning and coordinating LAN, WAN, Firewall, IDS/IPS infrastructure upgrades, enhancements, improvements and/or newly required service deployments. Duties also include evaluating network performance issues, including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; analyzing service incidents and problems; identifying risks; providing recommendations and implementing solutions. A key job component is preparing and maintaining detailed documentation and network infrastructure policies, standards and diagrams.
The successful candidate must be able to anticipate, identify and mitigate technical risks before changes are made, remain current on industry standard technologies and best practices for network configuration and security, and understand the District’s needs when designing or implementing technology solutions.
Minimum requirements include: a B.Sc. in Computer Science or related discipline; Cisco CCNA/CCNP; and four to six years demonstrated experience with enterprise network configuration, deployment, and support. Experience with Microsoft Server, Palo Alto Networks Firewalls and VMWare ESXi preferred. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.
