Manager, Facilities Services – Minor Capital

The Greater Victoria Board of Education seeks a dynamic leader for the position of Manager, Facilities Services- Minor Capital.  The Greater Victoria School District No. 61 supports 3,000 employees who serve the educational needs of approximately 20,000 students in 28 elementary, 10 middle and 8 secondary schools.

The Manager of Minor Capital is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of all capital improvements, alterations and modifications to District buildings and sites and oversees the Annual Facilities Grant (AFG),  School Enhancement Program (SEP), Carbon Neutral Capital Program (CNCP), Building Envelope Program (BEP), Playground Enhancement Program (PEP), School Funded Projects (SFP), Student Accessibility Projects, MCFD Funded project and oversees the budgets for Network Communications Infrastructure and Security and Energy.  The Manager is responsible for the abatement and removal hazardous materials (asbestos) and for the installation of access and security systems.  The Manager is also responsible for the installation and integration of school network and communications systems into schools and classrooms.

The successful applicant will have a solid background working in a Facilities management level capacity in public sector, unionized environments that are constantly coping with change. The applicant must demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in performance, the ability to exercise independent judgment with decision making skills, and possess the ability to enhance teamwork and open communication by striving to provide an approachable and trusting atmosphere in a collaborative setting.

Desirable qualifications will include completion of relevant post-secondary education and a minimum of 5 years of related experience including the supervision and coordination of professional employees, consultants and contractors, and including a minimum of 2 years’ experience in modular construction. A demonstrable knowledge of facility-related construction processes and procedures as well as project and time management practices to efficiently administer several projects and deal with competing priorities. The applicant must be knowledgeable in relevant legislation, energy conservation measures, computer information technology and public sector union collective agreements. The applicant must have a driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle for business purposes.
