Board Meeting Highlights – March 11, 2019

New Strategic Plan and Inclusive Education
The Board directed the Superintendent to consult with the Victoria Confederation of Parents Advisory Councils to create a stakeholder engagement process around inclusive education to help inform the development of new Strategic Plan components. The Superintendent will report back to the Board at the Education Policy and Directions Meeting in May on the engagement strategy.

Designing Forms with Gender Inclusive Language
The Board directed the Superintendent to update all forms provided and used by the District that include individuals to report gender information to include non-binary options.

Willows Childcare Space Consultation
The Board was provided with an update on the provision of childcare (mainly before and after school care) coming to Willows Elementary. It was proposed that two childcare units would reside on the school field off of Musgrave Street.  During a consultation meeting that took place on January 24, 2019, community concerns were expressed about the proposed site location.  The District updated the Board that they are currently examining potential alternatives to address community concerns. An update will be provided when further information is available and no work shall proceed until further consultation has occurred.

Childcare studios have been approved at Vic West, Frank Hobbs, Tillicum, Doncaster and Macaulay. The childcare studios include a full kitchen and three washrooms.
