The Board of Education of School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria) has approved the 2013-2014 District Budget. This coming year’s budget maintains current service levels and programs for  students in September.

Board Chairman Peg Orcherton said. “The flat line funding of Public Education, along with continued cost pressures has made this year’s budget a challenging one. The Board will continue to work hard to bring our concerns forward and work with Government and the BCSTA in our continued advocacy for proper funding in order to provide quality education for all of our students in Public Education.”

The Board had anticipated budget challenges and worked hard to find ways to balance the budget without negatively impacting students. The minor surplus of $16,483.00 will be carried forward for the 2014-2015 budget.

Board Vice-Chair Bev Horsman added: “We’re relieved that we didn’t need to be cutting services to our students in this budget. It’s been very difficult, after years of underfunding, to be able to maintain the programs we have.”

The annual budget will now be available in schools and the community. Budget details can be found on the website at www.sd61.bc.ca.
