Grounds Foreperson
Continuing Position
(Subject to Internal Staffing Process)

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities.  To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $210 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff; which includes, teachers, administrators, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.

Responsible to the appropriate Supervisor, the foreperson works within his/her area of responsibility to organize and supervise the work for his/her staff. The foreperson also coordinates activities with administrators, supervisors, foreperson, PAC groups, the public and other workers, and performs work within his/her trade certification when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Successfully completed courses related to supervisory skills such as leadership, organization skills, team building and conflict resolution or agreement to complete such courses.
  • Trades Qualification and /or Certificate of Apprenticeship in Gardening or Landscape/Horticulturist.

EXPERIENCE

  • Four (4) or more years of specific experience estimation jobs and supervising and coordinating employees, or six (6) years’ experience in their related area including some direct experience estimating jobs and supervising their staff and coordinating other trades/departments through the entire cycle of work from beginning of estimate to completion of project.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a leadership role. Stakeholders could include principals, teachers, students, parents, office staff, custodians etc.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret plans of playfield and perimeter drainage.
  • Must possess knowledge of digital technology; including email, online databases and facilities management software used by School District #61.
  • Must be physically able to perform all duties as noted in the Job Description. Must be physically able to perform the tasks identified in the job characteristics.

 This continuing position falls within the CUPE 382 Collective Agreement at a pay rate of $39.45 per hour based on 40 hours (7am -3:30pm Mon- Fri) and includes a comprehensive benefits package. For a detailed job description, please click here.
