POLICY 5118.1

CHARGING OR WAIVING FEES FOR TUITION OF CERTAIN PUPILS OF SCHOOL AGE AND CERTAIN PERSONS OVER SCHOOL AGE, RESIDENT AND NON-RESIDENT

The School Act makes provision for the Board of a School District to impose and recover a fee for tuition of certain pupils of school age and certain persons over school age, resident and non-resident within such School District, admitted and attending a school, program or course in its School District, or to waive such fee, according to the Board’s wishes.

The charging or waiving of tuition fees shall be as follows:

1.Tuition fees for education provided and accountable within established trust accounts.

That in order to offset the operating expenses of the under­mentioned educational classes, courses, or programs offered by our School District, a fee for accommodation and tuition shall be charged to the parent or guardian of a pupil of school age, or to a person over school age, as the case may be, enrolled and attending a school in our School District as follows:

a) For Summer School class instruction in a program not included in the Provincial Curriculum (School Act, Section 158(b)) involving non-residents, world-wide and residents, of school age only.

b) For any other course or program approved by the Minister (School Act, Section 160(c)(ii)) involving non-residents, world-wide, and residents, of over school age only.

2. Tuition fees for education provided and accountable within the Basic Education Program.

a) That individual pupils or groups of pupils, all of school age, residing in other School Districts in British Columbia may be admitted to our elementary or secondary schools or special programs, also individual persons or groups of persons, all of over school age, residing in other

School Districts in British Columbia, may be admitted to our special programs, provided that an executed agreement has been entered into with the other involved School Board for provision of such appropriate tuition and accommodation which our School Board shall provide free of charge (School Act, Section 157(1)(a)).

b) That individual pupils of school age residing in an area not within the Province of British Columbia, world-wide, may be admitted, free of charge, to our elementary or secondary schools (School Act, Section 158(a)).
