POLICY 3545.1

TRANSPORTATION

 

A. DAILY TRANSPORTATION

Within the legal boundaries of Greater Victoria School District No.61, provision will be made to transport daily those students who are beyond reasonable walking distance as defined by Departmental regulations.

Special permission may be granted by the Superintendent or their delegate for students within walking distance to be transported.

B. TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE

Provision will be made to assist financially in the daily transportation of certain special class students. The types of special class students to be assisted will be designated by the Superintendent or their delegate. Financial assistance will not be granted in respect of students attending optional educational programs who do so by their own choice.

C. SCHOOL JOURNEYS

Provision may be made to assist financially those students who are participating in school journeys as a regular part of their school program within School District No.61.

Provision may also be made to assist financially those students who are participating in special school journeys outside School District No.61.
For legal purposes, information concerning a special school journey must be filed with the Superintendent or their delegate.

D. GENERAL

School Board contract or public conveyance shall be used where feasible.

E. SCHOOL BUS

A school may purchase and operate its own school bus providing that all
School Board and provincial government regulations are adhered to.
