International students will learn alongside 20,000+ local students this school year.

The Greater Victoria School District welcomed 526 international students representing 26 regions into schools this month. These brave and adventuresome students have traveled from all over the world to immerse themselves in Canadian culture and contribute to diverse and inclusive learning environments in the Greater Victoria School District.
International students typically attend school in Victoria from six months to three years. They create long-lasting friendships with local students, offer unique perspectives in classrooms, and explore our city and beyond.
Kaela Douglas, a local student from Victoria High School who graduated a few years ago, recently shared her thoughts regarding International Education:
“I think it’s so positive, it is the opportunity to interact with the world without leaving Victoria. It’s a really big benefit. Also, gaining an intercultural instinct and knowledge of different cultures and countries, and picking up a little bit of the language from different places.”
Since 1992, International Education has created opportunities for students to practice independence, experience quality learning, and explore different career opportunities.
“I think I want to be an elementary school teacher, but don’t know where yet, maybe Germany, maybe Canada,” says Anna Brabant, a past international student from Germany. “So [being a student abroad] is a great opportunity to do something new and to learn something about yourself.”
International student Anna Brabant interacts with younger students, exploring her interest to become an elementary school teacher.
To all the newcomers who are navigating not only school, but life in Canada, we welcome you and wish you much success as you try new things, explore, and have fun learning within the Greater Victoria School District.
