The International Student Program is organizing an exchange program for 2018 with Yamate High School, a school located in Yokohama (Toyko area). This is a great opportunity for those interested in travelling to new places and forming intercultural friendships.
To participate in the exchange local students and families will host Japanese students for two weeks, from April 13th to April 27th, 2018. In return, local students will then visit Japan between July 20, 2018, and August 4, 2018, and stay with a Yamate High School family. During the visit, students will be immersed in Japanese culture and life.
For local students and families that are interested, an information session will be held at Uplands Campus (3461 Henderson Rd) on Monday, December 11, 2017, at 7 p.m.
Exchange Program Structure
Part One: April 13th to April 27th
Host one to two Japanese students in your home
During this portion of the exchange program, SD 61 students will host one to two Japanese students in their home(s). Japanese students will participate in high school classes with their host student as well as take part in local activities in the Greater Victoria region. Students may choose to only participate in this portion of the program.
Part Two: July 20th to August 4th
Spend two weeks in Japan hosted by Japanese Student
SD 61 students travel to Yokohoma, Japan to spend two weeks immersed in Japanese culture and daily life! SD 61 students will be hosted by Japanese students and their families and will participate in a number of excursions and activities. This is an excellent opportunity to experience Japan at a reasonable cost!
