School Principal joins Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock Team

Tillicum Elementary School Principal, Jeff Duyndam, is gearing up to cycle 1200km in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Duyndam is one of 21 riders cycling from Port Alice to Victoria this fall to help raise awareness and donations for life-saving childhood cancer research and national support services for families.

Duyndam was introduced as a special guest rider during the rider announcement today. Next week, he will begin intensive training to prepare for the 14-day ride, happening from September 24 to October 7, 2022. Duyndam is proud to represent the school district and his school community, which experienced the loss of a special principal due to cancer in 2017.

“I am proud to be riding on behalf of the school district in honour of all the staff, students and families who have been touched by cancer, including those in our own learning community,” said Principal Jeff Duyndam. “Losing a loved one, colleague or neighbour to cancer is one of the most difficult losses. Through this experience, I hope to garner community support for such a worthwhile cause as I have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects cancer has on families and communities.”

The Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock Tour is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For more information about the Canadian Cancer Society and how you can make a difference, visit: https://www.tourderock.ca/
