Notice of Advance and Voting Day Opportunities

Elections are conducted according to the rules and regulations set out in the Local Government Act which governs local government elections throughout British Columbia.

General local government elections in British Columbia are held every four years, including the elections for the offices of School District Trustees. The Board of Education of School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria) is comprised of nine Trustees.

The next local government election will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018, with general voting taking place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

General Voting Day will be opened on Saturday, October 20, 2018, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm to qualified electors of School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria) at the following places:

Elector Registration:

To register as an elector at the time of voting, you will be required to make a declaration stating that you meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Canadian citizen
  • Resident of BC for a least 6 months immediately preceding voting day
  • Resident or registered owner of real property in the School District for at least 30 days immediately preceding voting day, and
  • Not otherwise disqualified by law from voting.

Resident electors will also be required to produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature)  to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if applicable, written consent from the other property owners.
