Greater Victoria School Board Elects Jordan Watters as Chair

The Board of Education of School District No. 61 held its annual elections at the Inaugural Board Meeting last night. Jordan Watters, a trustee since 2015, was voted in as Chair. This will be her first term serving as Board Chair.

“It is a privilege to serve the Greater Victoria School District and I am honoured that my fellow Trustees have elected me as Chair of the Board,” shared Board Chair Jordan Watters. “I look forward to working with all of the Trustees, staff, educational partners and our community to ensure that each of our students has an opportunity to reach their full potential. Together, I believe we can be powerful advocates for a fully-funded public education system that reflects the principles of equity and inclusion.”

Diane McNally was elected as Vice-Chair of the Board of Education.

Rob Paynter will remain the Board representative for the British Columbia Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) and newly elected Trustee Nicole Duncan will be the British Columbia School Trustees’ Association Provincial Councilor (BCSTA).

Trustees also confirmed their committee assignments.

Diane McNally, Ryan Painter, Nicole Duncan and Tom Ferris will sit on the Education Policy and Directions Committee. The Committee Chair is Nicole Duncan.

Rob Paynter, Elaine Leonard, Ann Whiteaker and Angie Hentze will sit on the Operations Policy and Planning Committee. The Committee Chair is Rob Paynter.
