Experience an 8.0 Magnitude Earthquake: Ride the ShakeZone Mobile Simulator at Central Middle School

The community is invited to experience what an 8.0 magnitude earthquake feels like by taking a free ride in the ShakeZone mobile earthquake simulator on Thursday, September 19 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. outside Central Middle School at 1280 Fort Street. ShakeZone provides a realistic simulation of what a major earthquake will feel like in Victoria and is a reminder that we need to be prepared.

The City of Victoria has partnered with the Greater Victoria School District to align classroom education about plate tectonics and earthquakes with a realistic earthquake simulation to enhance the learning experience for grade 8 students at Central Middle School and Victoria High School students. The public is welcome to ride the simulator from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., however it will be quieter after 3 p.m. Please note the simulator may be emotional for some youth.

Victoria Red Cross Emergency Support Services will be joined by ShakeOutBC and the Victoria Fire Department to share educational information on emergency preparedness. Stop by to ride the earthquake simulator and spin Emergency Management Victoria’s wheel of fun for a chance to win a free emergency kit.

Emergency Management Victoria is the City of Victoria’s resource for helping the community to be prepared for an emergency. For more information, visit: www.VictoriaReady.ca.
