Board Meeting Highlights – January 2023

Standards of Practice – Educational Assistants
The Board approved a motion to write a letter to the Province expressing support for Standards of Practice for Educational Assistants. Educational Assistants play an important role in supporting inclusive learning spaces and supporting students with diverse needs. Victoria Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (VCPAC) has been advocating for professional development and mentorship to best support educational assistants, in addition to more prep time.

VCPAC – Communication Protocol
The Board directed the Superintendent to work with VCPAC to develop a communication protocol to support parent advisory councils with communication to members in their school communities.

Custodial Service Levels
The Board reviewed custodial service levels pre-pandemic, during the pandemic and now. It then directed the Superintendent to move forward with supplementary custodial services, hiring up to ten additional custodians for the remainder of the 2022/23 school year, and commence conversations with CUPE 382 to recommend custodial service levels for 2023-2024, including budget implications, for consideration in the 2023-2024 annual budget process.

The next Board meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023.
