Board Meeting Highlights – January 2020

New Secondary Courses

Trustees approved new Board Authorized Courses for grade 11 and 12 students. The courses include: Automotive Service Technician, Professional Cook, Reconnecting Youth, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Explorations in Computers. The new programs are expected to start in September 2020.

George Jay Re-Naming Committee

The Board of Education is moving forward with determining a new name for George Jay Elementary. Last night, Trustees voted to strike a committee to develop a re-naming process and to explore new naming options in alignment with Policy 1421 – Naming School Sites. The committee will have representation from the Victoria Chinese community, Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, parents and guardians, district and school staff, and the Board.
