PDF – Letter of Condolence and Support from the Board Chair
The Greater Victoria School Board extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and school community of Tai Caverhill. As One Learning Community, we all grieve the loss of this well-loved young man and hold his family in our thoughts at this very difficult time.
Tai always had a positive outlook. He had an infectious smile and was the type of student who would kindly greet anyone he passed in the hallway. He took the time to be involved in the school community and loved hanging out with his friends. He was a fun and caring big brother. Tai will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the entire community.
Our School District is extremely saddened by this event. In times of tragedy, Mr. Rogers urged us to “look for the helpers,” and we are fortunate to have many helpers across our District. The Board particularly wants to recognize and extend our gratitude to the members of our Critical Incident Response Team whose quick action and deep empathy has provided support to the Lansdowne community and to many others touched by this tragedy. We would also like to recognize our neighbouring School Districts (Sooke and Saanich), RCMP, Saanich and Victoria Police Departments for offering their support. Together we find strength in a time of loss.
If you are connected to this tragedy or if it has brought up difficult thoughts or memories, please reach out to your school administration or call the Tolmie Board Office. There are supports and resources available to you and we want to help.
Yours sincerely,
Jordan Watters
Chair, Board of Education
