Shelley Green named the new Superintendent of Schools

VICTORIA BC – The Board of Education is pleased to announce that following a nation-wide search Shelley Green is the new Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Victoria School District effective August 1, 2018.

“This is very exciting news for our trustees, staff and all of our community partners,” noted Board Chair Edith Loring-Kuhanga. “We listened to all the input collected during our extensive search for the right candidate and found Ms. Green’s experience, dedication and strong familiarity with the District made her the ideal person to continue building the District’s vision.”

Green currently serves as the District’s Deputy Superintendent. She has been with the organization for almost four years, starting as an Associate before being appointed in 2015 to her current role. Her experience includes serving a term as President of the British Columbia Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVA) from 2012-2014, where she provided leadership to the Board of Directors and worked in partnership with the Director of Operations to ensure the objectives of the association were achieved in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Her impressive resume also includes nearly three decades of experience in the Education sector. Green started her career as a teacher in Duncan later moving around the island and landing in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith District. Upon being tenured there she was promoted to Vice-Principal then Principal. Green earned a Masters in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University and has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria.

“My experience over the years has been preparing me for this role,” shared Shelley Green. “I feel very honoured and look forward to working with the Board of Education, our staff and First Nation and education partners, so we can continue to offer a world-class learning experience where all students are engaged and successful in their learning.”

Green will replace outgoing Superintendent Piet Langstraat who will depart at the end of the 2017/2018 school year.
