Registration Opens for Greater Victoria School District Public Budget Meeting

VICTORIA, BC – The Greater Victoria School District is inviting all members of its learning community—Rightsholders, students, staff, parents and caregivers, and community partners—to participate in a public budget meeting on Thursday, March 14, 2024. The goal of the interactive and collaborative meeting is to gather input on budget priorities for the 2024/25 school year.

Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in tabletop exercises, and provide their input on budget considerations that align with the District’s strategic goals, vision, and values. Participants can learn more about resource allocation and emerging needs that require investment, such as initiatives within the Strategic Plan and Framework for Enhancing Student Learning.

The Secretary-Treasurer will provide details on budgetary considerations and ways to advance student success. Other staff will be present to help facilitate discussion, including the Superintendent.

Public Budget Meeting Details:

  • 6:00pm – 7:30pm
  • Spectrum Community School (957 Burnside Road West) in Gym B
  • Advanced registration is required. Contact community@sd61.bc.ca by March 13, 2024
    at 4:00pm.

For those unable to attend, the presentation and supporting documentation will be posted on the District’s website. Following the meeting, feedback is invited through written submissions to community@sd61.bc.ca until April 5, 2024.

The first reading of the Board’s annual budget bylaw is on April 9, 2024. The Board requires three readings of the bylaw to approve the budget. The Board intends to have all three readings passed by April 11, 2024.
