The Government of British Columbia is funding a $2.4-million seismic upgrade for Campus View Elementary School as part of a commitment to investing in safe schools for children.
Minister of Education, Rob Fleming made the announcement at Campus View on October 27, 2017.
The construction includes adding 12 exterior concrete restraint anchorages to the three single-story classroom blocks. Each restraint anchors will consist of large concrete footings and shearwall cast against the exterior of the building. In addition, a steel frame will be installed at the top of each shearwall to anchor the wall to the roof.
Three concrete restraint anchors will also be added to the gymnasium to support structural beams and the roof.
Construction on the school will begin in June 2018 and will be completed by September 2019.
The majority of the exterior construction work will be done between June 2018 and June 2019, while the interior work will be completed during the summer school breaks. This will allow students to remain in school throughout construction.
