Teachers of the Visually Impaired

LOCATION:

Inclusive Learning, at Lambrick Park Secondary and Victor Office

MANDATE:

To provide the necessary support services to the visually impaired student

WILL ACCEPT REFERRALS FROM:

District Principal Inclusive Learning or SBT

REFERRAL PROCEDURE:

Contact Teachers of the Visually Impaired directly

VISUAL IMPAIRMENT MEANS:

  • A visual acuity of 6/21 (20/70) or less in the better eye, after correction
  • A visual field of 20 degrees or less
  • Any progressive eye disease with a prognosis of becoming one of the above
  • An uncorrectable visual problem or reduced visual stamina, such that the student functions throughout the school day as if his/her visual acuity is limited to 6/21 or less

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE:

  • Works directly with visually impaired students
  • Provides consultative services to SBT, parents, teachers, counsellors and other personnel, as required
  • Assists, as a liaison between home, school and outside agencies, to maintain effective communication
  • Offers in-service to promote a greater understanding of visual impairment and its educational implications
  • Assists in the provision of specialized materials and equipment, such as Braille, large print texts, equipment, etc., from the Ministry ( PRCVI and SET-BC)
  • Orientation and Mobility Services
