Itinerant Services to all Elementary Schools

MANDATE:
The role of the counsellor is influenced by the unique needs of each school. The counsellors provide counselling, consultation with SBTs, coordination of services, communication with parents, as well as education for students and staff, in order to promote healthy social and emotional development.

WILL ACCEPT REFERRALS FROM:
SBT and/or School Principal

REFERRAL PROCEDURE:
Parents of elementary age students must provide consent for counselling.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE:

  • Members of School-Based Teams
  • Work directly with teachers and support staff regarding individual students to assist with the development of strategies and support plans
  • Target a variety of topics, such as social skills or emotional development through small group work
  • Provide individual or small group counselling
  • Support students and families in crisis
  • Liaise with parents and community agencies to facilitate access to services and ensure ongoing communication with schools
  • Provide Case Management for identified (IBI) students –including IEP development
  • Consult on and/or develop School-Based Safety Plans
  • Consult with district personnel
  • Support teachers’ implementation of social responsibility and diversity programs
