Elementary Schools / Programs of Choice

Cloverdale Traditional School
South Park Family School

Registration for Cloverdale Traditional and South Park takes place during January 7 – 11, 2019.  Registration must occur in person at the school.  There is no advantage in being the “first” to register.  Families who register during registration week will have priority for placement.

What is needed to register?

To register a student at either South Park Family or Cloverdale Traditional School, a parent or legal guardian must provide school-age eligibility, proof of citizenship and proof of residential address.

Any applications missing the required documentation as of 3 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, will not be considered for priority placement. Schools will verify applicants’ residential address.

For more information on the required documentation, click here.

Program placements will be offered according to the following priorities:

Placements will take place in accordance with Student Enrolment Priorities. Since every student in the District has the opportunity to register at either of these schools, the enrolment priorities will reflect this (district = catchment).

Program placements will be offered according to the following priorities:

  1. Re-enrolling students
  2. A district area sibling
  3. A new district area child
  4. A non-school district sibling
  5. A non-school district child

Lottery Placement Procedures

All placements are based on the availability of space and facilities. Placement of students will take place in accordance with the Student Enrolment Priorities.

Registration is not based on a first come first served basis.  If there are fewer spaces than the number of applicants, a lottery will take place in accordance with the Student Enrolment Priorities noted above.  Students will be placed based on the order they are drawn from the lottery.

Waitlists will also be established according to the draw order of the lottery and enrolment priority.

Notification of Placement

Families will be notified of the results via email and a mailed letter. Notification will occur during the week of January 14, 2019.

Students who are not accepted, or do not accept placement at either South Park or Cloverdale must register at their French Immersion catchment school during the week of January 14 – February 1, 2019, for French Immersion or at their English catchment school during Kindergarten Registration Week, January 28 – February 1, 2019.

School Lottery

In the event, there are more applications for Kindergarten than the number of seats the school can accommodate, the priority order of registrants will be determined by a random school lottery in accordance to the enrolment priorities. Due to strong demand, the lottery process is introduced to ensure equitable access to each family wishing to pursue these two schools of choice.

In the event of a draw, one ballot will be entered into the draw for families with twins. If drawn, both twins will be offered placement in the program at the same school.

Should an opening occur once all available seats have been allocated, it will be offered to parents on the wait list in accordance with student enrolment priorities and the draw.

Registration Deadline

Registration for South Park Family and Cloverdale Traditional School takes place during the week of January 7 – 11, 2019 and must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019.

Late Applications

All late applications received after the communicated registration deadline will be added to the end of an established wait list.
