  • To use Shadow Copies to backup files (Windows 2003 Server)

Shadow Copies can be enabled on the Server Harddrives (right click drives - properties).

What Shadow copy does is make a "backup of changed files" at a time that you specify. I have chosen 12 noon and 5 pm. The only files backed up are files in shares on the drive.

The Shadow Copy client needs to be installed on the client computers. Then users can then right click a file or a folder and go to "Properties" and then choose "previous versions" tab. That will show them all the previous versions for the past week or so (depending on the size you set for Shadow Copies).

This comes in very handy if a user accidentally deletes or overwrites an important file. Users have to have "right click context menu" access in order to access.
