Studio
65: The B.J. Cook Educational Recording Institute
Female
rock pioneer and singer-songwriter B.J. Cook has teamed with
Vic High Music Director Eric Emde in his innovative vision
to make a state-of-the-art recording studio at Victoria High
School a reality.
"The
Vic High R&B Band already covers many professional aspects
of the music entertainment industry," says Emde, "but
playing an instrument, choreography, and singing are only
part of the picture. There are kids out there who understand
and love the technical side of the music industry, such as
sound mixing and recording. We want to bring them together
with the performers. We want to provide the whole experience."
From
their first discussion about the studio, Cook was right on
board, getting donations from high-profile friends and contacts
in the music industry.
She
has already helped raise $23,000, nearly half of the $50,000
target, set for January 2008. $27,000 is still needed. Her
energy and enthusiasm for the the Vic High R&B program
and new studio has been inspiring to Emde and his students.
The
studio will include up-to-date computers and software, and
a mixing board. It will require one or possibly two sound
booths and will be built in the footprint of the current band
room. It will be available to drama students, and may be rented
to the public.
