The District provides alternate settings for students with the following Low Incidence
disabilities at the Middle and Secondary level: Moderate to Profound Intellectual
Disabilities; Dependent Handicapped with intellectual disabilities; and Autism with
significant intellectual disabilities.
Instruction in these settings includes individual programming focusing on functional
academics, life skills, communication, vocational training and integrated therapies
(i.e. physiotherapy, occupational therapy, communication therapy). Efforts are made
to ensure students have opportunities for integration in school and community settings,
based on student strength and context capacity. Consultation with parents/guardians
is necessary prior to recommending placement.

and behavioural levels limit the student's ability for instruction in the neighborhood
school.
Instruction in these settings focus on restoring the student's teach ability while
promoting the development of literacy and numeracy as well as teaching effective
learning and social strategies. Efforts are made to ensure students have opportunities
for integration in school and community settings, based on student strength and
context capacity. Consultation with parents/guardians is necessary prior to recommending
placement.

POPARD – Provincial Outreach Program for Autism
and Related Disorders
A Provincial Resource Program that provides consultaion, training and support services
to schools with a primary focus on increasing the capacity of school district staff
to support students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). School teams can access
the POPARD team through the POPARD District Partner. The POPARD website provides
teachers, para-professionals, and parents with a wide range of evidence-based practice
approaches that facilitate inclusive educational programs in the least restrictive
environment.
SET BC Special
Education Technology – BC
A Provincial Resource Program loaning technology to school based teams supporting
students with disabilities whose access to the curriculum is restricted primarily
due to the following disabilities: physical disability/ chronic health, visual impairment,
dependent handicap, deafblindness, ASD, or moderate to profound intellectual disabilities.
School teams can obtain SET BC Request for Service forms through their SET BC District
Partner.
Provincial Resource
Centre for the Visually Impaired
The primary function of the PRCVI is to provide British Columbia school districts
and Group 1 & 2 Independent schools with alternate formats of provincially recommended
learning resources and with specialized equipment to support the educational needs
of students with visual impairments.

Program for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Current research, ideas, strategies, training and resources in order to build capacity
in school districts for students with FASD and their teachers.
Provincial
Outreach Program for Deafblindness (POPDB)
The consultants at the Deafblind Outreach Program work with School Districts and
school based teams to ensure that the unique needs of the student with deafblindness
are being met, and that each student is receiving an appropriate educational program.

Outreach Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (POPDHH)
A referral for Deaf students must be initiated by a school district. Parents or
guardians wishing for such a referral must contact their school district.
Provincial Integration
Support Program (PISP)
A Provincial Program hosted by GVSD to assist school teams and families in developing
meaningful and functional programs for BC students with severe/profound cognitive
and multiple physical disabilities within inclusive schools K-12. Although referrals
are made to Special Education Services SD 61 for specific consults, the PISP website
provides excellent strategies, resources, and learning modules to maximize student
learning.
