École Willows School's Mission

The Willows community is committed to fostering the well-being of its students, while developing their intellectual, physical and aesthetic abilities. It is our intent to assist each student to become a confident, caring, creative and responsible member of society.

Goal One:  To foster a respectful École school community

Rational
It is a big year for Willows.  After a year away, we are in the unique position of returning home to our newly refurbished building and celebrating our 100th birthday.  We talked a lot about what we wanted our 'new' Willows to be like and how we wanted to begin the next 100 years.   We discussed aspects of attachment theory, attendance rates, and lateness, but wanted to go beyond these traditional areas.  We also talked about our size and how it can impact how we personally connect with our students that are not within our individual classes.  Along with the promotion of interpersonal aspects of respect, we are also including respect of our school, neighbourhood, community, and the natural environment.  Over the next two years we will focus on a variety of initiatives which will make Willows a respectful place to learn and grow, giving our students an important foundation for what respect means in all aspects of their daily life.

Goal Two:  Our continuing focus will be to improve student achievement in Writing.   

Rational        

Our discussion around how well our students write led us to concentrate on this area of Literacy for a second year.  We all agreed that our students should be able to write better than was being indicated by report card data and the work being done in the classroom setting.
