Welcome!
The next whole school meeting will be held some time in August at Barb's house. Details to come.
Summer's Here
The leaving ceremony on the last day was beautiful, with performances by the school band, a lovely rendition of "It's My Journey" by Alina Robertson and the senior class, and tributes and thank yous by teachers and students.
The cermony was moving as well, with 18 grade 5s leaving for middle school and still others moving away. So many parents who have contributed over the years to the Sundance community will now be moving on to make their middle schools better. We will miss you! There were many warm, happy, and sad moments at the ceremony and outside afterwards. Janine Rimek was not the only one to cry!
First Day Schedule in September
Here is a copy of a letter sent home to parents. It covers the schedule and school supply lists for next year (also available on the parents page). Please don't send in all the school supplies on the first day—a pen or pencil will suffice.
On the first day, school will only run from 9:00 to 11:30 am, and most of that will be the annual potluck welcome. Please bring some brunch to share if you can, but be sure to come anyway, whether a new parent or "old hand". Meeting everyone is a wonderful way to start the year. (Barb will supply juice, tea and coffee.)

Helen in Istanbul
Our own Helen and her mom Uschi are in Istanbul to compete in the First LEGO League Open European Championships. The tournament is over now, but Helen's team blog should have the results soon. Check out the report on their first day.
Dawn to Dusk
Dawn to Dusk was fantastic as expected. The weather was perfect and we had a great turnout.
The bouncy castle and dunk tank were popular, of course, but there were so many more wonderful activities. We had face painting and henna tattoos, a cupcake walk, obstacle course, wet sponge battle, even a portable planetarium set up in the gym. The BBQ and potluck were delicious and packed with people. It was a great time and feast. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to run the events and brought such delicious food!
Sundance Mosaic Project
The mosaics were completed on time and scheduled to be mounted by facilities, but there were unexpected snags. Some emergency repairs at other schools meant that the facilities team was suddenly very busy. Even still, they hoped to come but couldn't quite make it.
We still had an unveiling of the mosaics at Dawn to Dusk anyway. We carried some of the pieces out of the portable for people to see in the sunlight, and Shylene gave a nice speech. We hope to have them installed by early September.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration week is all finished at Sundance but we still have a few spots available for September 2010. If your child is turning 5 years old before December 31st, 2010, and you would like to join us at Sundance, then please fill out a waitlist form and contact the office at (250) 598-5012. We also have a few spots available in grades 1-5. We look forward to hearing from you.
New Bell Schedule
The start and end times of school days are going to change this year. The big change is that dismissal will be at 2:45 pm every day, even Wednesday. Check out the new schedule and important dates on the parents page.
Spring Dance and Potluck

The Spring Dance was a wonderful success! Michelle arranged for a marimba band from Duncan called Bopoma to come perform for a dance in our gym, and they were terrific! They had several marimbas of various sizes, including a huge bass marimba with 12" pipes. Ted provided the rhythm section, joined by several of our own Sundance beatboxers.
The food was fantastic and plentiful—even enough to feed the band—and the bake sale raised almost $300 for the senior camp. Thank you to all those who unleashed such talent to provide us with such an amazing dinner.
Talent Show
The Talent Show was as great as anticipated. The acts were fantastic, and the turnout was huge. We barely fit into the gym!
There were amazing music performances on congas, piano, flute, and cello. There was beatboxing and some great vocal performances. We had skits, jokes, dance, tricks by Buster the dog, and a magic show!
Special thanks are due to Rachel and Dan along with Barb, who made the show run so smoothly, and to Shylene and the indispensible Stella for the art display. What a wonderful night!
Winter Celebration
Winter Celebration was a great success!
We enjoyed cider and refreshments, and heard songs prepared by the students and Mrs. Robertson. The first song was performed by all the students together, featuring Gracie on piano, as well as a percussion section and multiple choral parts.
The second song was by just the kindies and grade 1. The sang "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" as Mrs. R accompanied them on the piano. In the middle verse, we listened closely and could hear the stars twinkling!
Then, we were off to the classrooms for various activities, including a story teller who told aboriginal creation stories with humourous and mesmerizing effect.
Last we met back in the gym for circle dancing with Uschi, and on to a latern walk through a labyrinth outside, before going around the block wassailing for all of Sundance's neighbours.

Sundance Fund Dance!
Bluegrass band and friends of Sundance, The Clover Point Drifters returned to Sundance on Friday, November 27th for our annual fund raising dance. We had a wonderful time and raised some money for the senior camp. The Drifters were great, of course. We are lucky to have such a talented and famous band as friends
Thanks to everyone who came, and to those who provided baking for the refreshment table. The food was really good, and we managed to eat most of it.
And special thanks to Tehya and PSC Natural Foods for their donation of T-shirts and gift basket for a raffle.

Greeting Cards
The greeting cards have been produced and are for sale. The images turned out beautifully. Thank you to all the students who contributed artwork!
Some of the cards have a winter holiday theme, but not all do, so the cards are appropriate year-round. We have two different packs of 8 cards in 4 images, priced at $10 per pack. Please keep an eye out for someone selling them, or ask Rebecca to see them.
Get Involved!
The next whole school meeting will be held next Tuesday, June 8th at 6:30 pm in the library. As usual, childcare will be available.
