Welcome!
What's happening this week at Sundance.
February's newsletter is ready.
The next whole school meeting will be held Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30 pm in the library. As usual, childcare will be available.
Sundance Mosaic Project
The mosaic project is getting off the ground slowly. Shylene and other parents have held a few meetings, and we plan to hold more regularly on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school.
Shylene has also been spending time in the classrooms, establishing the fundamentals of mosaic design with the students. The students are really grasping the concepts of line, colour and design that goes into creating a mosaic. Have a look at some of their work in the hallway.
Winter Celebration
Winter Celebration was a great success!
We enjoyed cider and refreshments, and heard songs prepared by the students and Mrs. Robertson. The first song was performed by all the students together, featuring Gracie on piano, as well as a percussion section and multiple choral parts.
The second song was by just the kindies and grade 1. The sang "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" as Mrs. R accompanied them on the piano. In the middle verse, we listened closely and could hear the stars twinkling!
Then, we were off to the classrooms for various activities, including a story teller who told aboriginal creation stories with humourous and mesmerizing effect.
Last we met back in the gym for circle dancing with Uschi, and on to a latern walk through a labyrinth outside, before going around the block wassailing for all of Sundance's neighbours.

Sundance Fund Dance!
Bluegrass band and friends of Sundance, The Clover Point Drifters returned to Sundance on Friday, November 27th for our annual fund raising dance. We had a wonderful time and raised some money for the senior camp. The Drifters were great, of course. We are lucky to have such a talented and famous band as friends
Thanks to everyone who came, and to those who provided baking for the refreshment table. The food was really good, and we managed to eat most of it.
And special thanks to Tehya and PSC Natural Foods for their donation of T-shirts and gift basket for a raffle.

Greeting Cards
The greeting cards have been produced and are for sale. The images turned out beautifully. Thank you to all the students who contributed artwork!
Some of the cards have a winter holiday theme, but not all do, so the cards are appropriate year-round. We have two different packs of 8 cards in 4 images, priced at $10 per pack. Please keep an eye out for someone selling them, or ask Rebecca to see them.
New Schedule For This Year
By now, students may have heard about the long Spring Break next year. Two weeks! Yay!
And the times during the day have been changed. School starts each day at 8:45 am with a warning bell at 8:40 am, and lunch still starts at 12:00, but recess will be shortened to 15 minutes. The afternoons start at 12:55 pm and end at 2:59 pm (2:02 on Wednesdays).
Dawn to Dusk
Dawn to Dusk was a fantastic experience this year. Thanks to all the volunteers who came out, and to the students who took a big part in the planning this year. And special thanks to Jodie Bridgewood for returning to Sundance to run the henna and face painting tent. She had a line up all day!
The hardiest joined Uschi and Carrie on Willows Beach at 5:00 am to see the dawn, and there were still some at Sundance until almost dusk. There were no classes all day, and the grounds and school were never empty. This truly was a dawn to dusk event!
There were so many activities, it's hard to list them all. Of course, we had a bouncy castle and dunk tank, but there was a running ball hockey game, an obstacle course, and tug-of-war over a wading pool. Not to mention a cupcake walk, and all the art projects: tie-dye, stepping stones, and clay for the kiln.
We had a short break to clean up, but everyone kept busy. Then it was time for an beautiful an interesting performance by Movimento, featuring our very own Helen! We learned about and saw several Medieval costumes and dances through the ages, and enjoyed the skits presented in the Medieval Italian fashion. Comedy, juggling, swordplay! What more could we ask for?
Then on to the BBQ and potluck, followed by a performance from the third-graders. What a wonderful day!
Get Involved!
