Parent Advisory Council (PAC) PAC EXECUTIVE 2011-12 Alison Carretero - PRESIDENT Liz Forster - VICE PRESIDENT Lori Hall - SECRETARY Mike Goldsworthy - TREASURER Katrina Mace - VCPAC REP The PAC is the official voice of the parents/guardians of students at McKenzie School. All parents/guardians are voting members of the council and are encouraged to attend monthly meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month, 6:30 p.m. in the library. The PAC works in a variety of ways for the benefit of students, staff and the school community. Their aims are: to communicate with parents about school programs and policies; to communicate with school staff on behalf of parents; to provide opportunities for parent education; to raise funds for school equipment, projects and activities; and to organize social events to promote the development of a healthy school community. McKenzie PAC also sponsors a foster child in a third world country. Reasons to be involved in the PAC: - your child benefits from knowing you are interested in school - you learn what is happening in education - you become more familiar with the school’s operation and the staff who work here - you meet more of the parents of your children’s friends - you have input concerning the school and your child’s education Did You Know?.... That the school has a vast array of excellent resources available to you all sitting in the library? Yes, a section, to the right of the computers, is dedicated to PARENTS…..Why not drop in and check out what’s available sometime? Your PAC needs your help in the following areas. Early Warning - Early Warning is a program operated by volunteers to ensure our children arrive safely at school each morning. Volunteers offer their time about once every two weeks for about 20 minutes in the morning between 9am and 9:30am. The volunteer is given the a list of the students that are absent for the day. From the list the volunteer cross references the students that are late and the checks the answering machine for other absences. If any students are left on the list, a call is made to the home to ensure the student is indeed absent for that day. Popcorn- Volunteers are needed once a month to pop and sell popcorn for popcorn day. Popping popcorn takes about 2 hours and can be done anytime the day before popcorn day. Selling popcorn is done during recess and takes about 15 mins. Two people are needed to sell popcorn. Special Food day- Special foods day takes place once a month on a Friday. One volunteer per classroom is needed to deliver the food to the classrooms and distribute it. Volunteers meet at the old gym at 11:50 and are usually done in about 1/2 hour - 45mins. This job can also be done with your toddler with you to help. Movie night - Volunteers are needed before and after movie night to set up chairs and clean up. Volunteers are also needed to sell tickets and work in the concession. Other special events- There are also other events that take place once a year such as the family BBQ, family dance, Scholastic book fair and end of the school activities. All of these events require volunteers to set up, work in the concession, flip burgers, clean up, sell tickets and more. All of these fun events at McKenzie school are operated by volunteers like you. If you would like to volunteer some of your time, please contact the PAC by contacting the office at school and your name will be passed onto the PAC. Thank you for your support!
