It was a 'Rube'-tastic start to the school year as we
welcomed our new and returning Mavericks with a week of contraption and culture building. An abundance of geniuses discovered "Ways to make our year POP!" It was fun, friendly and, of course, educational too! Here's a video of our very busy first week of 2010-2011.
We welcomed many guests, performers and informers again. Our favourite Olympian, Gold Medallist Adam Kreek, returned with friends to talk about his plan to row around the world to raise money and awareness for Right to Play and Tundra the Wolf dropped by the Grade 7 wing and Studio 85 for a day.
Studio 85 was on the air every day keeping Glanford up to date on all the usual events that fill up the middle school calendar. Sports teams of every stripe, Cabaret & Music Program Concerts(This year they went to Seattle), the Golden Boot joined this year by the Golden Earl (Both won by the Staff), the Mt. Washington Ski Trip, Hat Day, Hallowe'en and Valentine's Dances, the CanWest Spelling Bee were just a few of the items you would have learned about at 8:38AM daily. As well, we continued our tradition of raising money for the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock ( $11,000.00) and our African schools ($4200.00), along with donations to Hoops for Heart, Socks for the Homeless and our Christmas Food Drive.
At the end of the year we said good-bye to Mrs. Margetts who moved to newer challenges as Vice-Principal of Doncaster Elementary. We know she will bring to them the same ability to lead and the same energy that have been such an important part of our success. We wish Mrs. Margetts well and will miss her. |
