Welcome to Glanford Middle School
Home of the Mavericks

Greetings to the GMS community!

The end of the 2009/2010 school year is approaching - where has the time gone? Being involved in Middle School life has that affect on you - there is so much happening, every day, that if you blink, you might miss it!

Great things happen in Greater Victoria Middle Schools, and at GMS, we have been proud to promote exemplary teaching and learning. When we talk about middle school learning as a concept, we can't help but refer to building relationships and providing opportunities for new experiences. This year has been outstanding! We have connected with our students as learners and as individuals, providing all of them with opportunities to learn and grow in academics, athletics, and in fine arts. Growing as a young adolescent can be challenging, but when embracing the opportunities provided at GMS, the journey is action packed and filled with fun!

Year end activities are being planned by all three teams - the Rockin' Rookies, the Geckos, and the Hippity Hoopla. Outings near and far will be offered to all students, allowing for special time with each other and celebrating a wonderful year together.

Our year end Band and Music concert is planned for the evening of May 25th. Our rugby and field hockey seasons have come to an end, and track and field finals are approaching. Our Walk for Water, which raises awareness and funds for students in Tanzania, happens May 27th. Our Year End Assembly is planned for June 28th, this year's final day of classes.

GMS cannot begin to offer the enriching experiences for students that it does without the dedication and support of the parents and grandparents of our community. We would like to thank you by inviting parents and grandparents to pick up a hot coffee and breakfast treat the morning of June 9th, from 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM. Please pop by the school to say hello and give us a chance to say thanks for all of your help this year!

See you in and around GMS!

Sincerely yours,
Louie Scigliano, Principal

GMS Goes To Beaver Lake

A school wide day of fun to cap off a great year... we say 'YES'! GMS'ers hiked and biked to Beaver Lake for to take a swim, play some volleyball or just hang out with friends before the Summer holidays.

Happy Hoopla Week

As is tradition, the Hippity Hoopla celebrated their last week at GMS with field trips and events that allowed our 8's a final chance to think back on their time here. They will be going a multitude of directions in the Fall and we will miss them but we will remember their good friendship while they were here. Good luck to all the Hoopla in high school and visit us sometime.

Geckos Go Back to Qwanoes

It's June and that means our 7's go to camp. Qwanoes once again welcomed our Geckos to fly through the air, to drop from great heights and to attempt any contraption that would propel them at dangerous speeds towards the ground from perfectly safe platforms. Click to see the Geckos going all superhero.

Sporty Day

The sunshine, the World Cup and the return our our favourite Olympian, Adam Kreek, had GMS'ers feeling more active than ever. So, we pulled on our favourite team jersey and got out to enjoy a glorious Spring day running, kicking throwing, and shooting. Go Germany!!!

A Normal Wednesday

La-Dee-Da... Not much going on... Except Parent Appreciation Drive-Thru Breakfast and the June Retro-Assembly. Muffins, donuts, coffee, wedding announcements, awards and prizes, musical performers, the Pregnant Ladies of Pasadena Avenue and, of course, the Retro-Video. All in a day's work here at GMS.
