Frank Hobbs Elementary is located near the end of a short dead-end street in a park-like setting with a pre-school on one side and the University of Victoria up the hill. Arbutus Grove Centre offers Before and After School Care on site. We are a K-5 school with few staff changes and a stable student population. Our student body includes ESL students from several international locations and students with Aboriginal heritage. Our catchment area includes the University of Victoria student housing. We welcome students with identified special needs.

Frank Hobbs cultivates a close working relationship with the Faculty of Education at the University. We are an on-going participant in the SITE project (focused on Physical Education and Language Arts). We welcome the vitality and opportunities for learning that university student teachers bring to several of our classrooms each year. Our native plant garden has fostered connections with community environmental groups including the University of Victoria Environmental Studies class (HAT), Life Cycles, and the Sierra Club. One of our on-going connections with our neighbouring Goward House is a knitting club which is led by staff and supported by seniors from the community.

We are a school known for a focus on academic achievement, social and environmental responsibility, and participation in fine arts, sports, and fitness; we can be characterized as a "fit to learn" school. Parents play a critical role in promoting and encouraging their children's learning. They are supportive of the learning opportunities provided by our very capable staff as well as sponsoring chess and tennis lessons for all students. The PAC provides educational workshops for parents and are very active in organizing social activities that promote a strong school community which recognizes and celebrates diversity. Frank Hobbs is a professional learning community.
