Principal's Message

Welcome (and welcome back!) to Ecole Doncaster Elementary!  We are looking forward to the 2011-12 school year as another great year at Doncaster.  Doncaster will be turning 65 this school year, which means that the Doncaster community of students ranges in age from about four to over seventy years of age.  We are proud of that legacy.  Even as one of the newer Doncaster members of the Doncaster community, I often meet people eager to say that they or their children attended Doncaster.

Much has changed over the years; the building has undergone a number of renovations, the most recent of which has given the school a great new look.  Much has also stayed the same.  We continue to focus on literacy, numeracy, fine arts and healthy living.  We continue to work together as educators to determine what this looks like and how we can achieve it in our contemporary world.

A central part of our work at Doncaster is to maintain our academic excellence while supporting the learning needs of all of our students.  This means engaging our students and keeping them engaged in their academics while providing a safe, caring and supportive social community.  To put it another way, each child has unique strengths and needs and we strive to give each one an effective and rewarding education.

As has been the case in Doncaster throughout its history, a large part of its success depends on the support of Doncaster families.  Your support of your children’s educational experience at Doncaster, such as being involved with classroom activities and by attending our PAC meetings, makes a big difference to how our school works.  Over the coming year, we aim to support your involvement by updating how we communicate with parents and families. Watch for changes and adjustments to the website to help make this a little easier. (I’ve even started a twitter account – stay tuned to see how this will work)

The staff and I look forward to the coming year, helping another group of Doncaster students prepare to take on the world!
