ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Class Representatives
Our Class Rep Coordinator and Class Representatives help teachers coordinate class events and activities and keep parents informed about DPAC activities. These volunteer positions are filled at the beginning of every school year. For more information, please contact Shannon, current Class Rep Coordinator, at shannon@yesmag.ca

Dance Club

DPAC has a dance teacher coming in at lunchtime one day a week between Thanksgiving and Spring Break to teach dance to students in Grades 1-3.  Sutdents learn a variety of dance styles including jazz, modern, ballet, and disco.  At the end of the session, the students perform in Star Search so the whole school can see what they've been working on.  For more information, contact dcranston@shaw.ca.

Craft Club
Craft Club is open to all students in Grades 1-5.  It is held on Mondays at lunchtime. This club is funded by DPAC and run by parent volunteers. If you're able to help with prep or during craft club, please contact Lee-Ann at lswinton@shaw.ca or 595-3240.

Lice Check Program
Doncaster's very successful Lice Check Program is run confidentially by parent volunteers. We do a school-wide lice check approx. 5 times per year. Please help us on Lice Check day by ensuring your child's hair is washed and has no gels, sprays, clips or elastics. New volunteers are always needed and very welcome! Contact Anna at seeley_la@hotmail.com or Jenn at naturallysalty@pacificcoast.net.

Lunch Program
Students are invited to pre-purchase their lunch for one day a month. Parent volunteers collect money and order forms twice per year, and arrange delivery of healthy lunches, alternating between Villages Pizza one month and Subway the next. Look for the Lunch Program order form in your child's backpack in September and January.

School Planning Council
Three parent representatives sit alongside school administrators and teachers on the School Planning Council, an advisory group instituted in the School Act. The SPC develops, monitors and reviews school plans for improving students' academic and social achievement. Elections for the parent rep positions are held in October, and training is provided by the school district in November. The positions are open to any interested Doncaster parents.

Supporting School Activities
Teachers and administrative staff from the school request parent volunteers from time to time to help at events or do behind-the-scenes prep or clean-up work. Watch newsletters, the front page of the Doncaster school Web site and email updates, and please help out if you can.

Canadian Parents for French (CPF)
DPAC selects a CPF representative, who helps keep the Doncaster community informed of activities of the local chapter www.cpf.bc.ca. CPF chapters are local, parent-driven organizations that advocate for French programs in schools, organize festivals and workshops and offer day-to-day support for parents and students. CPF membership is $25 per year and provides parents with information, materials and access to activities needed to support your child's FSL education. Sixty-five per cent of the membership fee is returned to the Victoria chapter which helps to finance programs that benefit local school students.

FUNDRAISING

Entertainment Books

DPAC participates in the Entertainment fundraiser, which involves selling coupon books with 50% savings on family fun, dining out, travel, shopping and more!  People enjoy buying Entertainment Books so please tell your family and friends well in advance that we will be selling them so make sure to buy theirs from you.  This ususally comes home in mid-September and is a great fundraiser for our school.

Magazine Drive
In the fall, DPAC sends information home to families about the QSP/Reader's Digest Family Magazine Drive. We ask you to order or renew any magazine subscriptions you, your family and your friends may already be purchasing through the school instead of directly to the magazine. You will save up to 85% off the cover price and DPAC will retain an average of $10.00 per subscription. It costs the same or less than ordering directly, and you can even use savings coupons you may already have for your subscriptions. And the best part: it comes in plenty of time to send or renew subscriptions for Christmas gifts! If you choose to order or renew at a different time during the year or if you have family and friends elsewhere in Canada, go online to www.QSP.ca, use Doncaster's online code (3375), and your order will be processed instantly and bring the same benefits to our school as if you had used the hard copy form.

Thrifty Foods Smile Cards Pick up your Smile Card at the school office, load it up at the Thrifty Foods till using your Visa, MC, cash, debit or cheque, then ring through your groceries and use your Smile Card to pay.
