About ANED Academic Support ANED Resources Graduation

In 1979, the Greater Victoria School District joined with the Victoria local of the United Native Nations to form a Commission to review and make recommendations regarding the special educational and cultural needs of District Aboriginal Students. The findings of this Commission led to the creation of the First Nations Education Division, which has since become the Aboriginal Nations Education Division (ANED).

ANED provides a variety of courses / programs / services to meet specific needs, as well as strengthen cultural and individual identities and provide academic support for Aboriginal students.

ANED has now catalogued over 3,400 books and videos on Aboriginal people. District staff, students and the community are welcome to review the materials and to check them out for personal or classroom use. The Centre is located at the ANED Office at the rear of the Tolmie Building at 556 Boleskine Road. Telephone: (250) 475-4131 or (250) 475-4124

The Aboriginal Nations Education Division of the Greater Victoria School District annually hosts an Aboriginal Recognition Ceremony for all Aboriginal Grade 12 students who have completed the official requirements for graduation. We know that our students have worked long and hard to obtain a Grade 12 education, and we feel that they need to be honoured and acknowledged for their perseverance and dedication.
